The Purple Hybrid, Purple Hybrid Premier 3/3 and Purple Hybrid Premier 4 are the appropriate names. Purple Hybrid, also known by the Purple 2, measures 11 inches in thickness. It is also firmer and more suitable for stomach, back, or stomach sleepers than the two other models. It’s also one of the most affordable Purple Hybrid mattresses.
The Purple Hybrid Premier, formerly known as Purple 3, is 12 inches thick with a thicker Hyper-Elastic Polymer comfort layer. This makes it feel a bit softer and lands around a medium to medium-firm on the scale. Purple Mattress Cross Section
The Purple Hybrid Premier 4 is the most expensive of the Purple hybrid beds, but it’s a whopping 13 inches thick and is extra supportive. It has a medium-firm profile and would be suitable for all body types, just like the Purple Hybrid Premier 3.
Purple Hybrid Mattress Video Review
Purple Hybrids have purple detailing all over the bed. It’s a great choice for someone who is passionate about the color. Its premium appearance is due to the high-quality cover. What does the Purple mattress feel like?
It’s quite different than the innerspring mattress in Grandma’s guest room, and I will tell you that. It’s a new concept for a bed that I think ended up working in the company’s favor. Purple Mattress Cross Section
Purple Hybrid mattress firmness & Feel
Purple Hybrid mattresses, regardless of which model you buy, are soft and airy. They don’t feel like foam. When you run your hand down the center of the mattress, you can feel the squishy squares bend and morph underneath.
It’s not super noticeable when you’re laying down, it just feels buoyant like you’re floating on your back or laying on a hammock. The thick layer pocketsed coils make it really supportive, which I’ll explain below.
Purple Hybrid 2 feels simultaneously supportive and pressure-relieving. However, it has a slightly firmer profile. Although the soft squares won’t press into your hips or shoulders when you lie on your back, my spine and back feel reinforced by the Hyper-Elastic Polymer layer. I think it’s a tad bit firmer than the Original Purple mattress.
If you aren’t open to exploring new ways of bedding but are curious about the Purple Hybrid then you may want to consider other options. The Purple Hybrid might be for you if it offers a mattress feel that is both supportive and light on the hips, shoulders and back. Purple Mattress Cross Section
Purple Hybrid Premier
The brand’s two top-level hybrid beds share the same Purple feel but have a slightly softer profile due to their thicker Hyper-Elastic polymer layers.
I think they both land in between a medium to medium-firm, or around a 6 on the firmness scale. Purple Mattress Cross Section
Purple Hybrid mattress construction
The Purple Hybrid measures approximately 11 inches high and has four layers. Here’s a simple breakdown of the bed’s layers so you get an idea of what makes Purple, Purple:
A thin slab about an inch thick of basic foam that supports the thick pocketed coil layer.
The mattress is made up of thick pockets of coils measuring 7.5 inches in diameter, each wrapped in fabric to limit movement transfer. It is the foundation of this mattress’s support.
A thin half an inch of foam to help neutralize the feel of the pocketed coils in the bed’s foundation.
The Hyper Elastic Polymer brand uses covers that are approximately 2 inches in height. These are laid out in a grid-like pattern. This is the primary layer that distinguishes it from the other two Purple Hybrid mattresses — each mattress has a different thickness of this layer. It’s bouncy, squishy, soft and provides most of the Purple’s comfort.
The dense foam slabs that surround the edges make the sides more sturdy and supportive.
Purple’s StretchMax Cover is on the top. It’s very stretchy, just as its name suggests. It feels more breathable and breathable then a standard mattress cover. Purple Mattress Cross Section
Purple Hybrid Premier mattress layers
The Purple Hybrid Premier mattress is the highest-rated option from the brand. Only the top layers make up the main difference in construction.
The Purple 3 has a 3-inch layer of Hyper-Elastic Polymer at the top, while Purple 4 has 4 inches.
They are slightly softer than the Purple Hybrid, although it doesn’t make much difference in feel. Purple Mattress Cross Section
Motion isolation is not a common feature of innerspring beds, but the Purple Hybrid offers a different approach with its pocketed coils.
It seems to be quite capable of isolating motion, even though it is very bouncy.
It almost makes no sound, so you’ll barely be able notice your partner’s movements on the other. Purple Mattress Cross Section
Purple Hybrid mattress are made with firm foam around edges to keep your body upright if you find yourself slipping towards the side of bed at night.
So, I give this mattress the enthusiastic thumbs up for edge support.
The other benefit of the Purple Grid besides bouncy comfort would have to be its temperature-regulating abilities. The Purple Grid doesn’t have any cooling materials, but its natural breathable design makes them one of the best mattresses to allow airflow.
It doesn’t retain heat like memory foam or poly foam might, making it appealing to hot sleepers like me who need the additional cooling relief. Purple isn’t cold to the touch but I don’t feel hot sleeping on it. Purple Mattress Cross Section
